People tend to have preconceived ideas about hospices, particularly about the fabric of the building - and what goes on in them. Many people picture an institutionalised row of beds in a depressing environment. Yet the reality of the modern hospice couldn’t be further removed from this stark image.
Respite care provides a place for encouragement, incredible support and attention to detail; a place for living and enjoying practical ideas. Whilst the harsh reality is that hospices also exist to provide palliative care, staff are understanding, caring and medical experts in their field. A place for emotional comfort that usually provides family support and is both patient and compassionate.
Hospices receive very little government funding and by supporting the work of your local hospice you can make a real difference in your community.
